Privacy Policy
We value the trust that you place in us and in this online service. We know that Somerville’s Credit Union members expect privacy and confidentiality in all dealings with our credit union, and we pledge that we will take the steps necessary to protect the privacy of information shared with us. No action can be taken involving your data without your prior consent.
What types of non-public personal information do we collect about you?
We collect and retain data from individual members including information we receive from you on applications and other forms and information about your transactions with us and other parties.
Do we disclose to any affiliated or non-affiliated third parties your non-public personal information?
We may disclose the following kinds of nonpublic personal information about you to affiliated or non-affiliated third parties such as financial service providers, ATM networks, and payment processors:
- Information we receive from you on application forms such as your name and account numbers
- Information about your transactions with us or others such as account balance, payment history, parties to transactions, and usage of our system.
We will not reveal specific information about member accounts or other personally identifiable data to affiliated or unaffiliated third parties except as follows:
- When the information is required to complete a transaction that you initiate
- When you request it
- When disclosure is required by law (e.g. subpoena, investigation of fraud, etc.)
- When you have been informed about the possibility of disclosure for marketing or similar purposes and you are given the opportunity to decline or opt out
We can personalize this service based on the information you provide to us, if you tell us you want this. However, if you prefer that we not disclose nonpublic personal information about you for marketing or similar purposes, you can opt out of such disclosures and direct us not to disclose any information except as permitted by law. By declining, you will not be included in personalized marketing offers from non-affiliated third parties.
Business relationships with third parties
We agree that we will not share information with third parties who do not adhere to similar privacy principles and practices as ours.
Children’s online privacy
The law requires parental consent to collect or use information from a child under 13. If you are a child under 13, please show this to your parents and do not use the online services of this institution without verifiable parental consent pursuant to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
What is our policy relating to former members?
If you decide to close your account(s) or become an inactive member, we will adhere to the privacy policies and practices described in this notice.
Information security and accuracy
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products and services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal requirements to guard your nonpublic personal information. Procedures exist to ensure that member financial information is accurate, current and complete. Our staff responds to requests to correct inaccurate information in a timely manner.
Links to other (third party) sites
Our website and mobile app (see further privacy policy) may contain links to third party websites. When you click on a link to any other website or location, you will leave the Somerville’s Credit Union digital environment and go to another site and another entity may collect personal and/or anonymous information from you. Somerville’s Credit Union has no control over, does not review, and cannot be responsible for, these outside websites or their content. Please be aware that the terms of this Privacy Notice do not apply to these outside websites. We encourage you to read the privacy notice of every website you visit.
Mobile App Privacy
Somerville's Credit Union Mobile App (the “App”) helps you manage your money, view your transactions and accounts, making it easy to manage your finances on the go.
The App provides the services to users on behalf of Somerville's Credit Union (“Your Financial Institution”) as a service provider. This Privacy Notice, in combination with relevant privacy notices that we may provide to you (e.g., pursuant to financial privacy laws), informs you of the policies and practices regarding the collection, use and disclosure of any personal information that the App collects from or about users in connection with our mobile application (the “Services”).
The App may collect personal information from you in the following ways:
(a) Personal Information you provide to us.
The App may collect personal information from you, such as your first and last name, address, email, User IDs, or telephone number, when you register for other financial services. Device images/videos may be accessed when you deposit a check or make peer to peer payments. Device contacts may be accessed when you make peer to peer payments. Device location may be accessed to detect and prevent card transaction fraud and to provide branch and atm locations.
The App may collect financial and transaction information necessary to provide you with the services, including account numbers, payment card expiration date, payment card identification, verification numbers, and transaction and payment history.
(b) Personal Information collected from Third Parties.
Somerville's Credit Union may collect certain information from identity verification services and consumer reporting agencies, including credit bureaus, in order to provide some of our Services.
(c) Personal Information Collected Via Technology.
We and our service providers may automatically log information about you, your computer or mobile device, and your interaction over time with our services, our communications and other online services, such as:
Device data, such as your computer’s or mobile device’s operating system type and version, manufacturer and model, browser type, screen resolution, RAM and disk size, CPU usage, device type (e.g., phone, tablet), IP address, unique identifiers, language settings, mobile device carrier, radio/network information (e.g., WiFi, LTE, 3G), and general location information such as city, state or geographic area.
Online activity data, such as pages or screens you viewed, how long you spent on a page or screen, the website you visited before browsing to the Service, navigation paths between pages or screens, information about your activity on a page or screen, access times, and duration of access.
Cookies, which are text files that websites store on a visitor’s device to uniquely identify the visitor’s browser or to store information or settings in the browser for the purpose of helping you navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, enabling functionality, and helping us understand user activity and patterns.
Local storage technologies, like HTML5 that provide cookie-equivalent functionality but can store larger amounts of data, including on your device outside of your browser in connection with specific applications.
Web beacons, also known as pixel tags or clear GIFs, which are used to demonstrate that an email was accessed or opened, or that certain content was viewed or clicked.
Location Information. If you have enabled location services on your phone and agree to the collection of your location when prompted by the services, Somerville Credit Union will collect your location information when you use the services; for example, to provide our fraud detection services. If you do not want the App to collect this information, you may decline the collection of your location when prompted or adjust the location services settings on your device.
How the App uses your information
(a) General Use. In general, the App uses your personal information to respond to your requests as submitted through the services, to provide you the services you request, and to help serve you better. The App uses your personal information in the following ways:

Comply with applicable laws, lawful requests and legal process, such as to respond to subpoenas or requests from government authorities Protect our, your or others’ rights, privacy, safety or property (including by making and defending legal claims) Audit our internal processes for compliance with legal and contractual requirements and internal policies Enforce the terms and conditions that govern the Service Prevent, identify, investigate and deter fraudulent, harmful, unauthorized, unethical or illegal activity, including cyberattacks and identity theft(d) Creation of Non-Identifiable Data. The App may create de-identified information records from personal information by excluding certain information (such as your name) that makes the information personally identifiable to you. Somerville's Credit Union may use this information in a form that does not personally identify you to analyze request patterns and usage patterns to enhance ourproducts and services. Somerville's Credit Union reserves the right to use and disclose non-identifiable information to third parties in its discretion.
Your choices regarding your information
You have several choices regarding use of information on the services.
(a) How We Respond to Do Not Track Signals. Some web browsers transmit “do not track” signals to the websites and other online services with which your web browser communications. There is currently no standard that governs what, if anything, websites should do when they receive these signals. Somerville's Credit Union does not take action in response to these signals. If and/or when a standard is established, we may revise this policy on responding to these signals.
(b) Access, Update, or Correct Your Information. You can access, update or correct your information by changing preferences in your account. To do so, you should contact Somerville's Credit Union. For additional requests, please contact us on whose behalf we are providing the services to you.
(c) Opting Out of Location Tracking. If you initially consented to the collection of geo-location information through the Services, you can subsequently stop the collection of this information at any time by changing the preferences on your mobile device. Please note, however, that if you withdraw consent to our collection of location information, you may no longer be able to use some features of the Services.
Policy Updates
This Privacy Notice is subject to occasional revision. Somerville's Credit Union may notify you, in their sole discretion, of any material changes in our collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information by posting a notice on the Services. Any material changes to this Privacy Notice will be effective thirty (30) calendar days following notice of the changes on the Services or immediately where no notice is given. These changes will be effective immediately for new users of the Services. If you object to any such changes, you must notify Somerville's Credit Union prior to the effective date of such changes that you wish to deactivate your account. Continued use of the Services following notice of any such changes (or use of the Services after any such changes) shall indicate your acknowledgement of such changes.
